Automotive Easter Eggs: Hidden Design Features You Never Noticed

Do automakers put little hidden gems in their cars for you to find? Have you ever noticed these Easter Eggs hidden in some of the design features of your car.

It might seem like a waste of time and energy to place hidden items in the designs of cars, but automakers have been doing this for years. These little gems are located in obscure places, which means you’ve got to look hard to find them. Some are tucked away by designers to add an extra layer of interest and charm to the vehicle.

Here are several automotive Easter Eggs hidden in the design elements of your vehicle.

Jeep leaves trail coordinates

Jeep is well-known for placing these little design elements in its vehicles. What you might not realize is that they have integrated coordinates of famous off-road trails into many vehicles to give drivers something to enjoy. Some trails include the Rubicon Trail in California and the Moab in Utah. The coordinates are subtly etched somewhere within the car, giving owners a nod to the adventurous spirit and brand’s off-road heritage.

Mustang puddle lamps

Puddle lamps project from the side mirrors to display a small light on the ground. This is a safety and comfort feature to show drivers and passengers the ground around the vehicle so they can avoid puddles. Ford has hidden one of the many Easter Eggs in these puddle lamps by projecting the pony image Mustang logo when the vehicle is unlocked at night. This iconic symbol is a reminder of the fun and active drive you’re about to enjoy when you step inside this Ford muscle car.

Heritage symbol from Mini

The Mini Cooper is famously British. Everything about this car screams “Hail to the Queen,” and makes many admire it spirit, design, and intrigue. Even if you don’t get your Cooper painted with the Union Jack flag across the hood, you might notice the rear lights wear the symbol of England with Union Jack lines, giving you that British feeling in a fun and enjoyable little car. This touch of patriotic flair is iconic to the Mini Cooper, which many admire and enjoy for being true to itself and its heritage.

Skoda pushes the rain away

Some of the Easter Eggs you’ll find have a hint of practicality to them. Skoda does this with a hidden umbrella in the driver’s door. This adds a little bit of convenience and comfort to your drive. Imagine coming out of work and realizing the rain has begun only to be without an umbrella. If you drive a Skoda, that won’t happen. It’s a little surprising that more automakers haven’t added an umbrella to their doors, it wouldn’t be difficult for them to do this.

Ride the Rainbow Road

Tesla offers a ton of automation and interesting features inside their vehicles. Some Telsa vehicles seem like they were designed and programmed by video game designers, and maybe, in some ways, that’s the case. The Tesla Rainbow Road appears when you activate Autopilot four times in quick succession. This visualization appears on the touchscreen to give the road on the navigation system the look of a colorful rainbow road with animated cars that remind you of the classic Mario Kart game.

Chrysler cleans up right

Another of the Easter Eggs that is a convenience and practicality feature is the onboard vacuum cleaner system that’s part of the Chrysler Pacifica. When you’re on the go and need a great way to clean up a mess, the concealed vacuum that’s hidden within the rear cargo area helps make short work of messes. This is a fantastic item for families with small children to clean up the dropped snacks or to clean up some dirt from potted plants that you bring home to add to your gardens.

Playful fun from Tesla

The Tesla software includes a digital whoopee cushion, which can make things a little more fun for drivers and passengers. The item is hidden within the software and accessible through the touchscreen to allow pranks to be played on unsuspecting passengers with funny wind sounds. This leans into the whimsical nature that is supposed to be part of the Tesla personality, highlighting the brand’s innovative and playful spirit. This adds a little more fun to the driving experience, making it easy to enjoy some fun with your passengers in a Tesla.

These automotive Easter Eggs are meant to be fun and give owners a little something unique to experience and enjoy in their vehicles. Are there any on your current ride? Have you checked?
