Ram ditches V8 engines
The allure and power of Hemi V8 engines are gone from the Ram half-ton truck lineup for 2025. Instead of using Hemi power for the drive, the Ram 1500 lineup is entirely powered by 6-cylinder engines mated to 8-speed automatic transmissions. The base models will still use a Pentastar V6 engine that makes 305 horsepower and 269 horsepower, but the new 6-cylinder engine is the talk of the town.
This new engine is the Hurricane model, which gives the Ram 1500 lineup a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that pumps out 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque in the standard output models. There’s also a high-output version for the Tungsten trim, which delivers 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. This figure is 145 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque, more than the outgoing 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine.
How does the Hurricane engine compare?
When put up against the top engine for the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra, the Ram 1500 Tungsten’s Hurricane engine has amazing power. This new engine is the most powerful engine offered in a light-duty pickup truck except for the engine in the Ford F-150 Raptor R, which is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8. The Hurricane’s torque figures fall short of the Toyota Tundra hybrid turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that makes 583 lb-ft, but the Ram’s engine has more power while the Tundra tops out at 437 horsepower.

When you open the door to see what the Tungsten trim offers, you’ll be amazed at what you find. It seems like this shouldn’t be a truck, but it is. The cabin is covered in high-end thick leather and soft-touch materials, making this one of the most posh and upscale cabins in the automotive market.
